Playing with seesmic

Alright, I'm wondering how this will work...I think this is going to be fantastic for the deaf community to communicate back and forth. I'm happy and excited to be a part of the alpha community.

seesmic does have its limitations. There are no subtitles or captioning options for deaf viewers to watch people using voice. I think that seesmic could embrace the potential of being a huge part of the online deaf community.

One way to do this is putting up an language option for "American Sign Language" in order for signers to be able to find each other more easily once seesmic goes final. I'm not sure if I'm the only one using seesmic that can sign but I'd welcome the opportunity to try to communicate with another deaf friend through seesmic.

Anyways Here's my first seesmic video. I'm just introducing myself as Louis Ricciardi, living here in Johnson City and explaining that I'm curious how this site will benefit the deaf community. I tried to voice for myself a little bit. Sorry if you can't understand my voice or I'm not loud enough. Anyway let me know what you think of the concept!

update: wow i just posted my video 30 minutes ago and I already have 9 replies. I haven't had a chance to see them all but I appreciate the positive response!

hey, that sounds cool, i hope that you and other international deafies could start vlogs about teaching each other your sign languages because it's much better than using gestuno or international sign language!! it's more natural.there's a tandem (languages exchange)site for learning languages, if they considered sign languages as well, there you can post videos and documents. i'd love it.

Hi Louis, gby from Seesmic here,

As I said in my reply to you, I recently joined Seesmic (4 days ago!) so am still getting used to it. It does seem very good though.

The benefit I think you have is that they are in the alpha stages at the moment so - and I'm not sure if you noticed it - the 'request feature' link at the bottom of the page may help you guys out.

I've always wanted to learn BSL (I'm not sure on the differences between BSL and ASL though) and did a TINY bit a few years ago but it's all gone now.

Looking forward to seeing more of you on Seesmic.

Enjoy.
Graham
